True geeks will love every bit of this clip that suffixed a recent episode of the Simpsons (read the transcript):
The video above is not complete. The full video was taken down again.
Hilarious Ad: Steve Ballmer Sells Windows 1.0
Oct 7th
Back in the day when Microsoft couldn’t afford to spend $300,000,000 on Gates-Seinfeld ads, the folk at MS had to resort to their own people. Steve Ballmer took it upon himself to sell Windows 1.0 in a more than satisfactory way. After all, he’s a salesman, right..?
Hilarious.

Google has a history of loving pranks and especially April Fools’ Day.
Yep, today’s that day.
For a full listing of all of Google’s jokes, visit the Google Operating System Blog.
iGoogle from right to left
Today, I saw my iGoogle homepage shift everything to the right.
Gmail Custom Time
Gmail Custom Time is a feature in Gmail which lets you set how recipients of your mails will see the datestamp. Dates in the past will also be reflected in the recipients’ inbox. And older message will appear lower in the list than newer ones, making your friends believe they’ve just forgotten about your message, instead of you being late.
The catch is that you can’t set dates back before April 1st, 2004, Gmail’s launch-date.
Tagline: “Be on time. Every time”.
Every time, this time, means you can use the option up to 10 times before it disappears.
gDay

Virgle: The First Permanent Human Colony on Mars
Vigle is a contraction of Virgin Airlines and Google and is a company that will make the first human settlement on Mars, announced by Google’s Main Blog. Here’s the video announcement:
Apart from it not being very believable, it also shows signs of bad acting. But who cares.
New Google Docs Option
The file menu on Google Docs now has a new entry, called ‘Create a new airplane’. It renders an image of an airplane. Well, sort of. It still needs to be folder and that task is up to you.

Music made with Windows 98 & XP sounds only
Feb 17th
The alert sounds that ship with Windows may enervate you after years and years of listening to them, but they’ve also found a new purpose. On YouTube, a little song was composed, comprised of merely Windows 98 and XP sounds.
It’s just as ingenious as it is frighteningly nostalgic. You have been warned.
Hit me on my iPhone [Video]
Jan 28th
Amber and Leo featured this video on their audio podcast net@nite. This music video is based on the original iPhone instruction video and has been lip-synced wonderfully. It’s not my kind of music, but still, a brilliant production and a must-watch.
My Home = Free Wi-Fi Spot
Nov 16th
“Fifty-four percent of computer users admit to using someone else’s Wi-Fi without permission, according to a new survey by security firm Sophos”
Well, duh, any sane person would abuse the stupidity of your next-door neighbor, right? It’s their own responsibility to secure their own freakin’ Wi-Fi-connection. It’s not even that hard! WPA, someone. Anyone? And what about RTFM?
“Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, said borrowing Wi-Fi Internet access may feel like a victimless crime but it deprives ISPs of revenue.”
Like ISPs aren’t earning enough money on our backs already?! The only thing I would advise you unknowing Wi-Fi-owners is to be concerned about conserving your privacy and not letting anyone use the internet access you paid for. You wouldn’t just let anyone use your electricity for the heck of it, would you? Didn’t think so either.
“which carried out the 560-person survey”
A survey on 560 people doesn’t feel like a very representative one, to me. Did they stand in the market place asking passers-by whether they used their neighbors’ Wi-Fi, or what?
This issue is clear as crystal, to me: if you pay for something for you, then make sure it remains yours and protect it. Read your manual. Setting up WPA is a 5-minute procedure and makes a heck of a difference. Even if you don’t really care about security, you could set it up just to screw your slimy neighbor over.

A hilarious rant of Chris Pirillo’s.

Idealist
Oct 24th
IdeaList is a wacky website where average Joes – like you and me – can post prototype ideas or inventions. Of course there’s voting involved and I must say I’ve seen some remarkably smart ideas. Silly ones aren’t lacking either, but who doesn’t like a good laugh?

Are you a Yankee or a Rebel?
Oct 24th
I must’ve encountered this link before, because it struck me as very familiar, yet still made the effort to fill out the questionnaire in order to find out what kind of accent I have.
While filling out the questions, it makes you think about how you pronounce certain words and based on that it gives you an approximation of how Yankee or Rebel you may be. Makes you realize some people say some words in some pretty weird ways
